I'd believe IPTV is a product of convergence. What happens is that you receive digital packets of media through your broadband. Effectively, hence, you use the same carrier for Information , Communication as well as Entertainment. I think they already provide interactivity. In fact I see this undergoing further changes - that you will have a single device through which you can make calls, check your mails and watch your favorite TV channels. Who knows you could even key in the name of the channel in a specified mode to watch it in TV mode, and and in another mode to watch it as a website! Or, say your send an SMS asking the latest on IPL and it reports you the latest scoreboard along with highlights.

Wi-Max has been talked of for long; in fact I even heard somebody even launched the service here. But we are not hearing anything further. That would indeed make internet so commoditised. If you have a mobile device with wi-fi you could get your mails downloaded on the move. Imagine that in grid-locked streets (which we are getting used to in the cities) you could work from your car or bus. People really will not be in mad rush to get to offices! Hence incidence of accidents will reduce:-)

However I also need to leave a word of caution. It also brings in a lot of risks - relating to security, of viruses - hence necessitating newer technologies.

Reliance (Anil Ambani group) has tied up for IPTV service and it was to roll out the service some time this year-end.

Is IPTV part of the Convergence technology? Does a customer get, say, a broadband service with DTH?

WiMax technology was a lot discussed few months back. I had seen/ read a review about WiMax and how it might catch the imagination of people who want to be connected at all times. I guess they have hit a roadblock - technical approvals.
